The object of International Prison Watch is to promote respect for persons who have been imprisoned in agreement with the provisions of the international human rights related instruments, by:

A – Striving irrespective of political considerations, to ensure that ordinary criminal prisoners should be subjected to no punishment other than being deprived of freedom, for whatever reason the individual concerned has been imprisoned.

B – Emphasizing the social reintegration dimension that should be combined with any freedom – depriving sentence.

C – Promoting all alternative punishment to prison.

D – Opposing by all appropriate means the imposition and execution of the death penalty as well as torture and the above mentioned types of treatment for whatever reason the individual concerned has been imprisoned.
